The Watchman At Sunset, From The Virgin River, Zion National Park I think this beautiful sandstone peak is to Zion what Half Dome is to Yosemite. It stands watch over lower Zion canyon. I love the peacefulness of this stretch of the Pa'rus trail along the Virgin River. The trees add a lot of character to the foreground views of the Watchman.
Sunrise, Mount Rainier Sunrise is the highest point that can be reached by car in the park. The trails in this area are great for wildflowers and this view of the mountain and the Emmons Glacier. The Indian Paintbrush was particularly prolific on this early August morning.
Badlands National Park, South Dakota On my way to visit the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, I had a few hours to stop and see the sunrise over the Badlands. I had identified this spot as a likely location, arrived half an hour before sunrise, and was not disappointed with the show. I only had time to see a small bit of the 380 square miles of the park, but plan to get back there.
