Onion Valley, Eastern Sierra Onion Valley is up at 9,200 feet surrounded by the peaks of the John Muir wilderness. The snow was still thick in spots when we visited in late May.
Unnamed Arch at Sunrise, Valley of Fire, Nevada There are fantastic red sandstone formations in this oldest and largest park in Nevada. I ran across this arch by accident while exploring an area well off the main road. I’ve visited it several times, and always had it to myself. This early June morning, I arrived before sunrise and spent some time looking at the stars before the sun began to put on this show in the eastern sky. The view is toward Lake Mead in the distance.
Afternoon At Tenaya Lake, Yosemite National Park The glaciers did us a favor when they created Tenaya Lake. The bright granite of the surroundings create beautiful reflections here. The Ahwahnechee people, the area's original inhabitants, had a perfect name for this alpine lake: “Lake Of Shining Rock.” This photo was taken from the western end of the lake.
