Death Valley National Park This is an iconic spot looking west from Zabriskie Point with Manly Beacon in the foreground and the Panamint Range in the background. Early morning colors here are remarkable and varied. There are interesting photos in almost any direction. Manly Beacon was named for William Manly, who helped lead the forty-niners out of Death Valley during the gold rush in 1849.
Juan de Fuca Provincial Park, Vancouver Island, British Columbia The extensive tide pools in this wilderness area are carved in sandstone by boulders tossed about by waves. The ridges are made up of quartz. We spent a lot of time exploring the tide pools and interesting geological structures. The beach is named for the abundant intertidal life.
View from Glacier Point, Yosemite National Park Every sunset up here is unique, but we remember one that was the most amazing we have ever seen. We were set up to watch and photograph when the sun started spotlighting various clouds and mountains in a fabulous display. Unfortunately, the camera malfunctioned and didn't record a single shot. But is is glorious in recollection.
