Sunset, Eastern Sierra from the Owens Valley, California We had planned to stay in Yosemite this October day in 2013, but the park was closed due to the government shutdown. So we headed over the Tioga Road to the eastern Sierra, and happened upon this sunset scene right along highway 395 just south of Lee Vining. I love the desert vegetation here and all along the Owens Valley, and was glad it showed up in this backlit scene.
Moon Over The White Mountains; View from the Eastern Sierra, California On our way down from Tioga Pass, the moon was rising over the White Mountains and Mono Lake. I loved the way the misty clouds veiled the moon, and the light gave a calming sense of the end of the day.
Moonrise Over The White Mountains; view from near Mono Lake, California Wispy clouds and the gentle light of the last of the sunset made for a peaceful scene. The desert vegetation of the Owens Valley and Mono Lake areas always fascinate me. They can appear dull and brown in mid-day light, but beautifully colorful at other times
