Super Blood Moon

Seattle from Rockaway Beach, Bainbridge Island, September 27, 2015 The last full lunar eclipse during a supermoon, when the moon is at its closest to earth, was 33 years ago. The next such occasion won't be until 2033.

Seattle The ferry from Bainbridge Island is a platform for ever changing views of the Seattle skyline. Similar but more distant views are available from Rockaway Beach and Pritchard Parks on the island. I had to combine multiple exposures to get this photo without the blurring caused by the vibration of the ferry.

Georgetown Steam Plant, Seattle This National Historic Landmark was built in 1906 and was in service until 1972. Its equipment is still in place, including the two steam turbines, which are some of the last remaining ones in the country.

The Mountain and the Docks

Seattle and Mount Rainier I like the contrast between the industrial area along the shore and the wildness of "The Mountain" looming in the distance. It's a familiar view from the Bainbridge Island ferry, but the early morning light was especially beautiful on this commute.

While I liked the brilliant color of the sunrise, it was the ferry's wake that interested me the most. The Sound can be amazingly calm early in the day.

Sydney Harbour, Australia I loved getting this photo. Walking over the Harbour Bridge in a rain storm, I hoped to find a nice view from Bradfield Park on the north shore. The storm cooperated, moving off to the south and creating this soft light.
