Middle Paradise Valley, Kings Canyon National Park n the High Sierra, with a boring sky above, the sunlight reflected in the gently flowing South Fork of the Kings River. This shot was taken near where Ansel Adams photographed Paradise Valley as part of the mural project for the park service in 1936. Those photos were instrumental in getting Kings Canyon named a national park in 1940.
Elwha River Valley, Olympic National Park Our most recent attempt to get to the snow fields in the Olympics was frustrated. So we headed to the Elwha River Valley and photographed frozen puddles. The designs are a closeup view of formations in the ice. .
The Waimakirri River, photographed here from a commercial plane approaching Christchurch airport, has its origina near Arthur's Pass in the Southern Alps. It becomes a braided river as it flows through the Canterbury Plans to the Pacific Ocean. This photo is a combination of two photos, taken a year apart. The title above is a translation of the Maori name for the river.
