Elwha River Valley, Olympic National Park Our most recent attempt to get to the snow fields in the Olympics was frustrated. So we headed to the Elwha River Valley and photographed frozen puddles. The designs are a closeup view of formations in the ice. .
The Waimakirri River, photographed here from a commercial plane approaching Christchurch airport, has its origina near Arthur's Pass in the Southern Alps. It becomes a braided river as it flows through the Canterbury Plans to the Pacific Ocean. This photo is a combination of two photos, taken a year apart. The title above is a translation of the Maori name for the river.
Mount Sefton, Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand This ridge of ice high up on the mountain is slowly sliding down and to the right, forming the ice towers in the lower middle of the photo.
